Microsoft announces a Unified Update Platform

In a Thursday announcement, software giant Microsoft said that it is rolling out a new update publishing system --- the Unified Update Platform (UUP), which will facilitate device users to easily upgrade from one Windows 10 version to another.

Announcing the new UUP update publishing system, Microsoft said that the platform will essentially comprise a few noteworthy behind-the-scenes changes in the company's Windows 10 OS. These changes are largely aimed at reducing the processing power required for updating a device, shrinking the size of update files, and streamlining updates on Windows-powered smartphones.

Asserting that the mentioned changes have essentially been designed to enable the company to address user complaints related to the update process, Microsoft said that it is imperative for the company to streamline its update procedures because its vision for Windows 10 OS includes a number of updates.

In a Thursday blog post explaining the changes, Bill Karagounis - Microsoft's director of program management for the Windows Insider Program and OS fundamentals - said that one of the most significant changes will involve Windows Update delivering updates based on their relevance to the device requesting them.

Highlighting the fact that the changes will "lead to faster checks for update operations," Karagounis said: "It's important to note that with UUP, nothing will look or behave differently on the surface, UUP is all underlying platform and service optimization that happens behind the scenes."
